You Are Eligible If You  READ BEFORE APPLYING

  • Are a c​itizens/nationals of one of the eligible countries;
  • Are between the ages of 25-40;
  • Are currently employed in your home country (or one of the other eligible countries) and have a demonstrated history of at least 2 years of employment in the tourism industry;
  • Are willing and able to obtain a J-1 visa and spend 6-weeks in the United States;
  • Are committed to returning to your home country after the program;
  • Have a track record of making an impact in your organziation, company, or community;
  • Are capable of creating an action-orientated plan to address a specific business problem or policy challenge being faced in their country;
  • Have sufficient spoken and written English language proficiency to effectively function in an American workplace.

  • Marshall Islands
  • Nauru
  • Palau
  • Papua New Guinea
  • Samoa
  • Solomon Islands 
  • Tonga
  • Timor Leste
  • Tuvalu
  • Vanuatu

You Are Not Eligible If You   READ BEFORE APPLYING

  • Are NOT a citizen or national of an eligible country;
  • Are a U.S. citizens (even dual citizens) and/or permanent residents of the United States;
  • Have a spouse who is a U.S. citizens and/or a permanent residents of the United States;
  • Are participating in academic, training or research programs in the United States at the time of application;
  • Residing or working outside your home countries at the time of application;
  • Have participated in an exchange visitor program sponsored or funded by the U.S. Government (e.g., U.S. Department of State, Public Affairs Sections of U.S. Embassies or other U.S. Government agencies) and have not fulfilled your two-year home residency requirement by the time of application;
  • Have applied for U.S. permanent residency in the past three years; 
  • Or a member of your family is an employee of a non-profit organizations who administer the Professional Fellows Program on behalf of the U. S. Department of State.  This provision does not disqualify self-supporting members of families who live apart from their parents;
  • Are a local employee of the U.S. Department of State missions abroad  or the U.S. Agency for International Development. You are ineligible for grants during the period of your employment and for one year following the termination of employment;
  • Have an immediate family member (i.e., spouses and dependent children) who works for the U.S. Department of State and U.S. Agency for International Development. You are ineligible for grants during the period of your employment and for one year following the termination of employment.  This provision does not disqualify self-supporting members of families who live apart from their parents.
